Amazon locks Meta’s Muse out of Amazon.com — agentic shopping hits the Conditions of Use wall

Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse personal AI agent from shopping on Amazon.com after Meta declined to voluntarily exclude the marketplace. Shoppers who try Muse for Amazon now see: “Continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use.”

Verified facts (Amazon statements to ADWEEK / GeekWire):

Amazon says it never agreed to Muse access and was not told in advance that Muse would hit its store.
Amazon alleges Muse does not identify itself when browsing, and “appears to capture and store customer credentials” — framing privacy/security risk; Meta has previously said Muse has “no visibility into people’s passwords or payment methods” and that shared credentials go into secure storage.
Amazon asked Meta to remove Amazon from the Muse experience; Meta did not comment to either outlet at publish time.
Same week’s colour: the companies are otherwise partners — Amazon goods sellable inside Facebook/Instagram, and Meta has a multibillion-dollar deal to run agentic AI workloads on Amazon chips.
Precedent: Amazon sued Perplexity over Comet agent shopping (an appeals court later overturned a temporary bar); Amazon has also moved against shopping agents from Google and OpenAI.

Inference (labeled): This is less a product bug than a platform-power fight over who owns the checkout relationship when agents buy — Amazon’s ad and discovery stack (~$68bn ad revenue cited by GeekWire) vs Meta’s agent bridging social discovery to purchase. Expect more merchant opt-in / bot-ID norms before “agentic commerce” is frictionless.
