New fund

Enercon launches wind debt fund offering developers up to $11.48M per project

What's the deal? ENERCONDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has launched the Enercon Finance Solutions Fund, which will provide wind developers up to €10m ($11.48m) in mezzanine loans per project. The debt is subordinated to senior bank loans, so developers can access capital without giving up ownership or voting rights.

Why now? Germany's onshore wind sector added 5.2GW last year, but prices in its most recent auction fell below €50 amid strong demand, squeezing developer margins. Plans to eliminate curtailment payments have added to the pressure.

What's the endgame? The fund is designed to fill gaps in developers' capital stacks — expanding financing options and reducing the equity required. It builds on Enercon's Renewable Energy Fund, launched in 2021, which bought equity stakes in at least five operating German wind farms.

"We are strategically expanding our portfolio with a flexible financing component and helping our customers implement projects more efficiently, optimise capital structures, preserve liquidity, and retain ownership of their wind farms," said chief financial officer Michael Jaxy.

Who's backing it? The fund brings together several institutional partners. Munich ReDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s asset manager MEAGDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is supplying long-term capital, debt-servicing firm MountstreetDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → will handle project assessment, and Universal Investment LuxembourgDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → acts as the regulated Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM). Enercon did not disclose the fund's size.

"Together with Enercon, we have developed a tailored debt financing solution for the German speaking wind energy market," said Antonia Jobke, managing director of MEAGDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

The signal: The fund is the latest example of turbine makers filling out capital stacks to help customers advance projects; VestasDealroom has a profile for this one. As auction prices fall and margins tighten, investor appetite for wind debt instruments is growing.
