DexCare buys Mila Health to give its scheduling data AI agents that talk to patients

What's the deal? DexCare has acquired Mila HealthDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an AI care coordination company whose agents call, text and chat with patients to get them scheduled and seen. The deal value was undisclosed. It is DexCare's second acquisition.

What each side does: DexCare runs a patient-access platform that turns scattered scheduling rules, referral requirements and insurance protocols into a single rulebook — proven across more than 10 million bookings. Mila builds AI agents that act on that data, reaching out to patients across calls, texts and chat.

Why now? Health systems are wary of off-the-shelf AI. "Healthcare can't rely on out-of-the-box large language models because they're unpredictable and can't be audited," said Shailu Verma, co-founder and chief executive officer of Mila Health.

What's the endgame? DexCare wants to extend AI from booking a visit to coordinating whole patient journeys — chasing overdue patients, explaining procedures and checking in after care. "Mila gives our data a voice, and our data gives Mila direction," said Matt Blosl, chief executive officer of DexCare.

The numbers: In production, Mila's agents hit a 54% patient response rate on outbound outreach — 80% higher than manual call centres. It says its agents cut no-show rates by 50% and lift revenue by 18%.

By the customer: At Tampa General HospitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, DexCare codified 260 scheduling policies and uncovered more than 50 gaps, according to Dr. Peter Chang, its chief transformation officer. Joining scheduling and clinical logic, he said, lets AI "accurately coordinate complex specialty care" across the enterprise, not just one clinic.

The backdrop: DexCare spun out of Providence HealthDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2021 and has raised $146 million to date, including a $75 million Series C led by ICONIQ Growth in 2023. It bought Womp, Inc.Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in 2022 to add consumer-grade search and scheduling.

The signal: The deal reflects a wider push to pair governed, auditable data with AI agents in regulated fields where generic models fall short. As DexCare's Blosl put it, "The era of stitching together tools, one at a time, to solve one access challenge is over."
