GenBio AI’s AIDO Cell: virtual cell world model amplified by UAE Embassy US
On 16 September 2026, the UAE Embassy in the US highlighted GenBio AI’s AIDO Cell — described as “the first AI model capable of simulating a human cell and its response to drugs” — pointing to coverage on UAE Preferred. That diplomatic amplification follows the company’s mid-August product unveil, not a first public announcement on 16 September.
Product unveil (18 August 2026). Palo Alto–based GenBio AI (founded 2024; Abu Dhabi lab) introduced AIDO Cell via a Business Wire / AP press release, with same-day coverage from STAT. The company positions AIDO Cell as a virtual cell world model : multi-scale and stateful, spanning DNA/RNA/protein through whole-cell behavior. Researchers can perturb at any level and watch effects cascade; the simulation retains prior interventions so sequential experiments accumulate, rather than resetting each time.
An early case study reportedly recapitulated the mechanism of imatinib in leukemia cells. The preview currently supports K562 and HepG2 lines, with more cell types and versions planned; GenBio says an early-access / academic collaborator program is coming.
Founding & scientific bench. Co-founders named in the release include Nobel Chemistry laureate (2024) David Baker (University of Washington / Institute for Protein Design); Eric Xing (President & Chief Scientist; President of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence); Fred Hu (CEO; Primavera Capital Group); Emma Lundberg (Stanford); Le Song (CTO; MBZUAI); and Ziv Bar-Joseph (CSO; Carnegie Mellon). Scientific fellows include Eran Segal (MBZUAI / Weizmann) and Debora Marks (Harvard). MBZUAI is a core institutional partner in the US–UAE framing of the story.
Caveats. “First” is the company’s claim versus prior lab efforts at full-hierarchy simulation — treat it as contested positioning, not independent verification. GenBio itself frames the release as a preview / early demonstration. Baker’s quoted caveat is explicit: they have not solved cellular biology yet; the milestone is having one system that can simulate across scales for computational interrogation, with potential implications for drug discovery, toxicology, and disease research if later versions prove out.
