Touax swings to €4.2M loss but shores up balance sheet with India deal

What's the deal? TouaxDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → posted a net loss of €4.2 million in the first half of 2026, reversing a €2.5 million profit a year earlier. Restated revenue fell 13% to €72.9 million and operating EBITDA dropped 34% to €20.1 million.

Why now? The Paris-based leasing group cited weak European industrial activity, Middle East geopolitical tensions, and delayed African infrastructure projects. Lower leasing revenues in freight railcars and containers, fewer syndication deals, and adverse euro-dollar effects all weighed on results.

What does Touax do? It leases sustainable transport assets — freight railcars, river barges, shipping containers, and modular buildings — to industrial customers and logistics operators across Europe, India, and Africa.

Try Dealroom →, injecting more than €30 million in fresh equity, while renewed $115 million asset-backed container financing and new green bond and loan issuances pushed major debt maturities beyond 2030.

The group's Indian operations kept full utilization on expanding freight corridors, contrasting with a European railcar division hit by intermodal overcapacity that dragged utilization to 78.4%. Container revenues dropped 14% on currency effects and softer demand linked to trade and tariff uncertainty.

There were pockets of resilience. River transport held up as industrial clients diversified and decarbonized supply chains, and container leasing began recovering over the summer as longer shipping routes lifted TEU-mile traffic.

Touax ended June with a €66 million cash position and an improved loan-to-value ratio of 60.4%. Its market capitalization stands at €27.08 million.

The signal: Touax is trading near-term pain for long-term positioning, leaning on India and green financing to weather a cyclical European downturn while keeping capacity to invest in higher-growth markets.
