Sunseeker buys back its top distributor in pre-pack deal, saving 42 jobs

Who's who? Sunseeker London, founded more than 30 years ago as an independent organisation, grew into the largest official distributor of Sunseeker yachts, selling more than half of the brand's annual production and servicing much of the European market. Why now? The luxury motor yacht industry has faced tough trading conditions and economic uncertainty. "In recent years, the luxury motor yacht industry has faced challenging trading conditions and economic uncertainty, resulting in reduced sales volumes across a number of high-end yachting segments," said Robert Ferne, partner at BTG.
What changes? Sunseeker is offering roles to up to 42 former Sunseeker London employees, retaining expertise and customer relationships as operations move into the new Sunseeker Europe structure. The deal aims to bring customers closer to the brand and strengthen its presence in key European markets.
The transaction was led for BTG by partners Jamie Taylor, Robert Ferne, and Felix Connolly.
The signal: The pre-pack administration route let all parties keep the business trading while preserving jobs and maximising value for creditors. As Ferne put it, "where there are strong underlying businesses there are good opportunities to create value." The deal reflects a wider marine-sector downturn pushing brands to take direct control of their distribution.
