The expansion: The acquisition extends the O'Brien Ford organization beyond Shelbyville into Woodford County, giving it a presence in the Versailles market. Moore said he plans to become active in the community and to maintain the dealership's reputation for service.
"Selling a family business is not simply a financial decision," said Bob Kain, general manager and son of the founder. "Our family name has been on this dealership for generations, and our employees and customers have become an extension of that family."
Moore struck a similar tone. "We respect what the Kain family and their employees have built here, and we understand the responsibility that comes with following a family that has served this area for so many years," he said.
The signal: The sale reflects the steady consolidation of independent, family-owned dealerships into larger regional groups, as founding families reach retirement and seek successors who will preserve their local reputations.
