GMI Cloud lands $947M in loans, backed by Nvidia GPUs

What's the deal? GMI Cloud has secured $947 million in loan commitments, in a debt arrangement backed by Nvidia GPUs. Nvidia will supply the chips and lease any unused computing capacity for as long as six years at an agreed price.

How it works: In return for supplying the GPUs, Nvidia would take half the revenue GMI Cloud makes from other AI companies. US-based Fireworks AI, which develops AI models and infrastructure, has agreed to lease some capacity for four years.

By the numbers: The commitment ranks in the 97th percentile among all-time debt rounds for enterprise software companies in the region, out of a sample of 1,632 deals.

Why now? The structure is among the first such arrangements being tested in Asia. GPU-backed financing is also gaining traction elsewhere in the region.

The signal: As AI infrastructure demand climbs, chipmakers and cloud providers are experimenting with financing tied directly to hardware. Nvidia's revenue-sharing and buyback terms show how central the GPU supplier has become to the economics of the companies it equips.
