Anthropic locks in $35B Nvidia-backed cloud deal for Texas data center

What's the deal? AnthropicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has signed a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda, securing computing capacity from a data center under development in Nueces County, Texas. Lambda, an AI cloud provider in which Nvidia is an investor, will supply the capacity to the maker of Claude. Reuters independently confirmed the deal, which represents roughly 350MW of capacity.

What's the endgame? The Lambda agreement is part of a broader push to diversify the infrastructure needed to train and run Claude. Anthropic already relies on Amazon's Trainium chips, GoogleDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s TPUs, and Nvidia GPUs.

Why now? Anthropic said in April its annualised revenue had surpassed $30 billion, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025. That growth demands more computing power at the frontier of AI.

The Nvidia thread: The deal places Nvidia across several layers of the transaction, according to The Wall Street Journal. Nvidia will provide the chips powering the Texas facility, developed by Hut 8Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, while also holding the lease on the underlying data center. Anthropic is backed by Nvidia, Lambda is backed by Nvidia, the hardware is Nvidia's, and Nvidia holds the lease.

Nvidia launched a financing model earlier this year to help AI cloud companies acquire its infrastructure. It can provide credit support while collecting both hardware sales revenue and a share of cloud revenue.

What could go wrong? That strategy draws investor scrutiny because Nvidia can appear on several sides of the same transaction. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Nvidia had paused some revenue-sharing arrangements after employees raised concerns about potential regulatory scrutiny. Nvidia disclosed $36 billion in commitments under agreements that typically run for six years.

The bigger picture: Anthropic has stacked up capacity commitments across the industry. It has agreements for up to 5GW with Amazon, $30 billion of Azure capacity via Microsoft and Nvidia, more than 300MW from SpaceXDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and a $50 billion US infrastructure initiative with Fluidstack. In April, it expanded a deal with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity starting in 2027.

The signal: The scale of Anthropic's commitments underscores how the race to build frontier AI now hinges on locking in vast, expensive computing capacity. Nvidia's growing role across financing, chips, and leases shows how tightly the industry's biggest players have become intertwined.
