Gridiron backs life-sciences outsourcer vdB&A in growth deal

What does vdB&A do? Founded in 2014 by Esther van den Boom, it provides pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device clients with outsourced finance and accounting, HR, and IT managed services. It also handles contract management, Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance, and technical accounting.
Who's backing it? Gridiron Capital, based in New Canaan, Connecticut, specialises in middle-market business services, consumer products, and industrial growth companies across the US and Canada. "vdB&A solves a real problem for companies whose success depends on staying focused on the science," said Scott Harrison, managing partner and chief operating officer.
What's the endgame? The investment will fund growth through Centers of Excellence, technology enablement, and organisational development. Gridiron plans to extend vdB&A into new life sciences subsectors while maintaining service quality for existing clients across its five offices in San Diego, Boston, Jacksonville, Minneapolis, and Manila.
"We found a partner that will enable us to continue being best in class, while expanding our offerings," said van den Boom.
The signal: The deal reflects growing private equity appetite for outsourced back-office services in life sciences, where regulated companies increasingly prefer specialist providers over in-house teams. Gridiron principal Aaron Stoppelmann pointed to vdB&A's consistent client retention as evidence of its position in a niche shaped by high compliance and regulatory demands.
