Redstone hits first close of €25M ocean tech fund

What's the deal? Early-stage venture capital investor Redstone has raised €25 million at the first close of Redstone Blue, its ocean-focused fund. It backs companies from pre-seed through Series A across maritime sectors.

What's the endgame? Launched in 2025, the fund targets four areas: sustainable maritime and port systems, ocean infrastructure and clean energy, marine intelligence, and blue biotechnology and water technology. Redstone said it backs founders "building for market-based returns while modernizing legacy industries."

Who's backing it? The round drew angel investors, family offices, foundations, institutions, and maritime-linked corporations. The fund is co-led by Klas Johansen and Tuomo Veivo, who both joined Redstone last year, alongside Kaj Hagros, managing partner for the Nordics.

Why now? Redstone framed the opportunity around scale, noting oceans cover more than 70% of the earth's surface, produce roughly half its oxygen, and hold over 95% of its biosphere. The firm ties the sector to climate stability and global supply of protein, medicine, energy, trade, and logistics.

The signal: A dedicated blue economy fund reflects growing investor appetite for climate-adjacent verticals beyond energy, betting that legacy maritime industries are ripe for technology-driven modernisation.
