Morpho's desktop UV printer raises $7M on Kickstarter in 16 hours

What's the deal? Morpho has launched a desktop UV printer on Kickstarter, raising more than $7 million from nearly 2,000 backers in the campaign's first 16 hours. The device is aimed at artists, Etsy sellers, and small business owners who make custom products.

What's the endgame? Rather than building objects from raw materials like 3D printers or laser cutters, Morpho adds colour and tactile texture to existing items across a range of materials. It offers more than 1,000 built-in textures and effects, can create raised textures up to 60mm tall, and supports finishes such as glitter and crystal effects.

Why now? Independent creators often face long lead times, high minimum order quantities, and unpredictable supplier costs when producing custom goods. Morpho pitches industrial-grade printing in a desktop format so users can run production themselves.

The printer features one of the largest enclosed print chambers in its class while staying compact. Its patented EcoInk formula enables low-odour printing, and a Smart Alignment system automatically detects each object's height and contour to cut manual setup errors.

Who's behind it? Founder Mingyu "Brett" Wang previously led R&D and engineering teams at DJI and holds more than 500 international patents. His team spans engineers, colour scientists, software developers, product designers, and manufacturing specialists.

"We prioritise user wellbeing in our design and seek solutions grounded in fundamental physical principles," Wang said.

The signal: Morpho's rapid haul signals continued demand from small-scale makers for tools that bring professional production in-house, reducing reliance on outside suppliers and their costs.
