HKEX's IPO boom tops $40B in 2026

Why now? The comments came as Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → posted record half-year results on Wednesday. Net profit rose 24% year on year to HK$10.57 billion ($1.35 billion), beating analysts' expectations.
Beyond tech: While AI and the broader tech sector have driven a surge in listings, Chan said the pipeline is well-diversified, citing biotechnology, mining, and consumer companies. "We still have a lot of pretty good high quality companies in the pipeline trying to get their IPOs done before the end of the year," she said.
The other engine: Follow-on offerings stand at over $50 billion year to date, compared with $66 billion for all of 2025.
Who's buying? Investor interest has stayed robust. Average daily turnover has hit HK$280 billion since the start of 2026, up from HK$250 billion for all of 2025.
Chan said cornerstone investors in IPOs have included sovereign wealth funds "from every corner of the world." Asked what was driving the liquidity — mainland China, international institutions, IPOs, or AI — she said it was coming from all of them.
The signal: With turnover from mainland China's Southbound flows largely stable, rising overall activity points to renewed global participation. "Even regional retail investors have come to our market in meaningful volumes," Chan said.
