Partners Group closes $1B private credit mandate in Asia
What's the deal? Partners Group has closed a $1 billion private credit mandate with a major institutional investor in Asia. The mandate includes a discretionary tranche managed by the firm alongside co-investment capital, structured as an open-ended evergreen vehicle.
What's the endgame? The mandate will invest in senior and junior direct lending across Asia-Pacific, building a diversified portfolio of credits spanning multiple sectors and jurisdictions. The evergreen structure lets the client build flexible, long-term exposure to the asset class in the region.
Why now? Partners Group has closed more than five mandates with major institutional investors in Asia over the past year, including an €800 million mandate for a regional sovereign wealth fund investing in direct private equity and infrastructure across Asia and Europe.
The context: The firm has designed bespoke solutions for institutional investors across Greater China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea for decades. Its private credit business has a 15-year track record in the region, and it holds over $40 billion in total private credit assets under management.
"A growing number of sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies, particularly in Southeast Asia and Japan, are increasing allocations to the asset class due to the attractive risk adjusted returns currently available compared to public fixed income portfolios," said Kevin Lu, chairman of Asia at Partners Group.
The signal: Andrew Bellis, global head of private credit, called the region "of increasing importance to the global economy," pointing to natural diversification from its differentiated economies. Institutional investors across Asia are increasingly building private markets exposure in their home region — a trend Partners Group says is gaining momentum across multiple asset classes.
