Naver backs floating AI data centre startup Panthalassa
What's the deal? NaverDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has invested an undisclosed sum in Panthalassa, a US startup developing offshore AI data centres powered by wave energy. Naver announced the investment on 13 August 2026.
How it works. Panthalassa's floating node platforms combine wave-power generation, AI processing and seawater cooling in one offshore unit. The company says the model can reduce land and grid-infrastructure requirements by running AI workloads at sea, with results sent to shore through low-earth-orbit satellite networks such as Starlink.
What's next. Panthalassa has conducted sea trials with its Ocean-1 and Ocean-2 platforms and plans to deploy Ocean-3 in 2026, targeting commercialisation in 2027. The investment expands Naver's push into AI infrastructure and renewable-energy data-centre technologies.
