Village Capital launches $700K flexible fund for Northwest Arkansas startups

What's the deal? Village CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has launched the VilCap Innovative Capital Facility NWA, a flexible investment facility for Northwest Arkansas startups. The Walton Family Foundation provided $700,000 to back the effort — the Washington, DC-based firm's first place-based facility in Arkansas.

How it works: The facility offers revenue-based debt and redeemable equity, or equity that can be bought back through a percentage of revenue. Repayments fluctuate with revenue, so founders aren't locked into fixed payments during slower periods.

Why now? Many startups in supply chain, food systems, and health struggle to access capital because they don't fit traditional financing models, according to Village Capital. The firm is targeting the "missing middle" — businesses "too advanced for grants but not yet the right fit for traditional debt or venture capital."

The details: Over the next year, the facility will invest up to $150,000 in about five Northwest Arkansas startups with at least $100,000 in annual revenue. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with the first portfolio companies expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

What's the endgame? The one-year pilot will extend if Village Capital validates demand for the tools. It also aims to map the region's financing gaps and attract additional flexible capital, the firm said.

The signal: The launch reflects growing interest in non-dilutive, revenue-based financing as an alternative to conventional venture capital — and in building capital infrastructure tailored to specific regional ecosystems like Northwest Arkansas.
