monday.com cuts 20% of staff, lifts margin outlook in AI pivot
What's the deal? monday.com (NASDAQ: MNDY) is cutting about 630 jobs — roughly 20% of its workforce — as it refocuses on its AI Work Platform. The Tel Aviv-based work-management software company disclosed the restructuring in an SEC filing on July 22, 2026.
Why now? The company said the plan aligns its structure with a strategic focus on AI, part of an ongoing transformation of its product, marketing, and go-to-market strategy. It framed the move as support for a "leaner, more focused operating model" as it invests in AI-driven growth.
The numbers: monday.com raised its FY2026 non-GAAP operating margin outlook to about 15%, up from about 13%. It maintained revenue growth guidance of 19%-20% year over year and an adjusted free cash flow margin of 19%-20%, and expects full-year results in line with or above prior guidance.
The cost: The company estimated $45 million to $55 million in net charges — severance, benefits, and office-space impairment — partly offset by about $15 million in non-cash share-based compensation credits. Most charges land in the second half of 2026, when the plan should be substantially complete.
What's the endgame? Despite the cuts, monday.com said it expects to keep hiring in key strategic areas throughout 2026. The trade-off is clear: fewer staff overall, redirected spending toward the AI platform.
The signal: A profitable, growing software firm cutting a fifth of its staff while raising its margin outlook shows how AI is reshaping cost structures — not just as a product bet, but as a case for running leaner.
