Midjourney launches Midjourney Medical, moving into medical-imaging hardware

Midjourney — the self-funded AI research lab best known for its text-to-image generator — announced on 18 June 2026 a new division called Midjourney Medical, marking its first move beyond generative imagery and into healthcare.

The division's debut product is the Midjourney Scanner, described as a full-body ultrasonic medical scanner. It is Midjourney's first hardware product, extending the company from software image generation into physical medical-imaging devices. The announcement followed a hardware livestream teased on the company's blog earlier in the week, and was accompanied by a technical overview of the scanner.

The move is notable given Midjourney's history: the company has taken no venture-capital funding and built a profitable subscription business around its image models. A pivot into regulated medical hardware represents a significant departure from that core product.
