Vercel's revenue grows 86% as Claude Code makes it the go-to host for AI-built apps
Vercel, the San Francisco-based web hosting and deployment platform, has become one of the primary infrastructure beneficiaries of the AI coding boom. The company's run-rate GAAP revenue hit $340 million at the end of February, up 86% year on year. Vercel raised $300 million in September 2025 in a round co-led by Accel and Singapore's GIC, lifting its valuation to $9.3 billion from $3.25 billion the prior year.
The company, founded and led by Argentine-born Guillermo Rauch , hosts digital infrastructure for brands including Under Armour, Stripe, and Sonos. It is now increasingly the default deployment laer for AI-generated apps built with Claude Code and other coding agents.
Claude Code's rapid improvement has dramatically accelerated the volume of code being deployed — and someone has to host it. Vercel's organic advantage stems from Next.js, the open-source web framework it builds and maintains. AI models have been trained heavily on Next.js code, making Vercel the natural deployment suggestion when Claude or similar agents finish building an app.
The numbers tell the story. Vercel clients using Claude represent just over 1% of users but generate almost 15% of total deployments. AI agent-driven deployments have grown from roughly 5% in June 2025 to over 21% in February 2026, with nearly 70% of those coming from Claude Code alone.
Vercel's advantage is organic, not contractual — there is no commercial agreement with Anthropic. If AI models shift their preferences, or if a competitor builds a superior deployment layer, that tailwind could reverse quickly. As Accel partner Dan Levine, an early Vercel backer, notes: building a Vercel competitor is easier than it used to be, and the company must stay ahead of the curve rather than assume its position is permanent.
The broader market is crowded. Cloudflare, valued at $75 billion,Supabase at $5.1 billion, and smaller rivals includingNetlify, Render, and Fly.io are all competing for the same infrastructure opportunity. Longer term, if AI models become capable enough to vibe code infrastructure itself, even Vercel's foundational role could come under pressure.
Vercel's trajectory is the clearest illustration yet of the picks-and-shovels dynamic playing out in AI. The explosion in AI-generated apps has not just created new software — it has massively increased demand for the infrastructure that runs it.
Companies with strong developer ecosystems and pre-existing model familiarity are capturing disproportionate value from that shift without needing to build AI themselves. Rauch's vision of autonomous AI software maintenance — teams of agents triaging, patching, and monitoring apps with minimal human input — points to where the platform is heading next.
