Solea builds autonomous synthesis robotics for materials discovery — self-driving labs that pair AI-orchestrated, closed-loop experimentation with robotic synthesis and electrochemical testing. The focus is catalysts and battery materials for water electrolysis and other clean energy technologies.
Materials R&D remains a slow, manual bottleneck for the energy transition, and autonomous labs promise to compress discovery cycles that currently stretch over years. As demand for electrolysis catalysts and battery chemistries climbs, faster iteration is where the leverage sits.
Solea is a 2026 DTU spinout founded by Nis Fisker-Bødker following his doctoral research at DTU Energy, commercialising self-driving laboratory technology developed there.
The underlying research produced FastCat, described as one of the largest autonomous catalyst discovery campaigns to date, plus CatBot, a fully automated platform for electrocatalyst synthesis and validation — evidence the founding work has already run at scale, not just on a whiteboard.
