The company

What they're building

NUXA Diagnostics is developing an on-site molecular diagnostics platform that aims to deliver results in under 30 minutes, instead of the days a central lab can take. The system uses a prokaryotic Argonaute protein guided by a short RNA sequence to detect the DNA or RNA of a target disease — isothermal, one-pot, and designed to run in the field without lab equipment.

Why now

Central-lab PCR still means shipping samples and waiting days, with trained staff required at every step. NUXA's approach is built to drop that to minutes on-site, at what the company says is a fraction of PCR cost — and a new guide for a different disease can reportedly be designed within days.

The backstory

NUXA is a future spin-off from Wageningen University, building on Argonaute-based detection inspired by the bacterial immune system. The company is founded by Patrick Barendse; beyond that, specifics on the founding team's pedigree aren't yet public.

Why this team

As a Wageningen University spin-out, NUXA is rooted in one of Europe's strongest life-sciences research bases, which fits a deep-tech diagnostics play. The real test will be moving the platform from lab-validated chemistry to reliable field deployment across its target sectors.
