The company
ilonai, based in Zug, is building automatic fall detection for people living at home, using approved network cameras on a closed network paired with a dedicated local computer running a fine-tuned multimodal vision-language model. Detection runs entirely on premises: when a possible fall is spotted, a confirmation image and an alert go to named guardians, with no live video feed, audio, face recognition or activity profiling.
Multimodal vision-language models have become small and capable enough to run on a single dedicated machine in a living room, which means a camera-based system no longer has to stream footage to the cloud to work. That removes the main objection to putting a camera in an older person's home.
The company says the aim is to help older people stay independent at home without turning the home into a surveillance environment, and it is explicit that the product is a home safety and alerting system rather than a medical device or emergency service. A first pilot began in a private home in October 2026, with room for additional pilot households.
Founder Marcell Simon studied at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and has worked at EF Education First, Bitcoin Suisse and 1plusx — a mix of consumer-facing, regulated and data-driven environments relevant to a product handling sensitive household footage.
