Discovery Loop is building AI systems that run the full scientific method autonomously — proposing experiments, implementing them, evaluating results and iterating — with thousands of research cycles running in parallel. The pitch is AI as the researcher, not just a tool for one.

As frontier models plateau on human-supervised gains, the next lever is automating research itself, and the company plans to point its methodology at machine learning research first before moving into other domains.

Four long-time Google collaborators — Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le — left the company to found Discovery Loop as a public benefit corporation on 5 August 2026, structured around a mission to accelerate scientific breakthroughs.

The founders bring senior pedigrees from Google and DeepMind, including Google's former chief scientist and a co-founder of Google Brain, plus a stated history of working together for between 14 and 30 years on foundational computing infrastructure and AI models.
