01 · Background

Who Swedish Venture Initiative is.

Historical Background
The Swedish Venture Initiative was established in 2016 as a collaborative effort between the Swedish government and the European Investment Fund (EIF). It was created to address a perceived funding gap for technology-oriented ventures in Sweden, aiming to increase the availability of venture capital.
Source of Capital
The initiative is a fund-of-funds, pooling capital from both public and private sector entities. Initial capital of SEK 582 million was jointly financed by the Swedish government, through Tillväxtverket (the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth), and the European Investment Fund.
Allocation Strategy
The program's capital is allocated to venture capital funds that, in turn, invest in Swedish early-stage and high-growth enterprises. It specifically targets investments in the technology sector. The structure is designed to attract private capital, with the intention of generating over SEK 2 billion in total investments into the Swedish venture ecosystem.
