Amjad Masad
Angel investor · Replit CEO
Amjad Masad is a Jordanian-American software engineer and the co-founder and CEO of Replit, the browser-based coding platform he started in 2016 with Haya Odeh and Faris Masad. Raised in Amman and educated at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, he was a founding engineer at Codecademy and then led JavaScript infrastructure work at Facebook before founding Replit.
Originally an online IDE for learning and collaborative programming, Replit has pivoted toward AI-assisted “software creation,” letting users build and deploy applications largely through natural-language prompts. The company has scaled rapidly to a multibillion-dollar valuation, putting Masad among a new wave of founders building tools that expand who can write software. Replit is used by tens of millions of people, and its AI Agent lets users build and ship full applications from a single prompt. Its community of millions of builders, and its emphasis on lowering the barrier to programming, have made Replit a fixture of the indie-developer and AI-coding scene.
Masad is a prolific operator-angel, with public trackers listing dozens of investments concentrated in developer tools and AI software. Dealroom tracks his investments in Perplexity, Runway, Synthesia, Granola, Etched and XBOW, among others. His investing centres on the software-development and AI-tooling space adjacent to Replit's own mission.
