ZIRX

ZIRX began its journey as an on-demand valet parking service, founded by CEO Sean Behr. The initial concept aimed to solve the persistent problem of finding safe and affordable parking in congested urban areas. Through a mobile application, users could request a ZIRX agent to meet them at their destination, take their car to a secure parking facility, and return it upon request. The service expanded to cities like San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York. To enhance the customer value proposition, ZIRX also offered ancillary services such as refueling, car washes, and oil changes while the vehicle was in its custody.

The company secured significant venture capital, raising over $36 million from investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, Trinity Ventures, and BMW i Ventures. However, the consumer-facing on-demand valet model proved difficult to scale to profitability. In a strategic pivot announced in February 2016, ZIRX shut down its direct-to-consumer operations to concentrate exclusively on the enterprise sector. This shift in focus was driven by the recognition that the enterprise business was experiencing growth and demanded more resources.

The new business model targeted corporate clients, car dealerships, repair shops, and car-sharing services, offering them a logistics and fleet management platform. This B2B service provided a platform for businesses to manage the logistics of vehicle delivery and movement, utilizing independent contractors. The transition to an enterprise model was intended to lower overhead costs, as it eliminated the need to purchase parking spaces upfront. Following this pivot, founder Sean Behr went on to become the CEO of STRATIM, a fleet infrastructure platform which was later acquired, and subsequently took the role of CEO at Fountain, a high-volume hiring platform.
