Zapata Quantum (formerly known as Zapata Computing and Zapata AI) is an industrial generative AI software company that emerged from Harvard University in 2017. It was founded by a team of researchers from Alán Aspuru-Guzik's quantum computing lab, including Aspuru-Guzik himself, Christopher Savoie, Yudong Cao, Jonathan Olson, Peter Johnson, and Jhonathan Romero. CEO and co-founder Christopher Savoie is a serial entrepreneur whose previous work contributed to the DARPA project that developed the technology behind Apple's Siri. The company has a history of pivoting, including a brief and challenging move into AI, which ultimately led to a shutdown and restructuring in 2024 before its comeback. Its client roster includes names like Andretti Global, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, and BBVA. The company's core offering is the Orquestra® platform, a software stack that accelerates the development and deployment of AI and machine learning applications. Orquestra enables the use of quantum-inspired techniques on classical computer hardware (CPUs and GPUs) to create AI solutions that can be faster, cheaper, and more accurate. The platform supports offerings like Zapata AI Sense for numerical and computational tasks and Zapata AI Prose, a text-based large language model solution. These tools are applied across industries such as defense, manufacturing, finance, and automotive to provide real-time intelligence and optimize decision-making, even in environments with limited connectivity.
