yerdle
White-label recommerce platform for apparel and luxury brands
About yerdle
Yerdle, which has rebranded as Trove, operates a B2B service that provides the technology and logistics for brands to enter the resale market. Founded in 2012 by Andy Ruben and Adam Werbach, the company was initially a peer-to-peer marketplace for swapping used goods. Ruben, formerly the first Chief Sustainability Officer at Walmart, and Werbach, an environmental activist, aimed to reduce consumer waste. The initial consumer-to-consumer model gained over a million members but struggled with high friction for users and did not prove to be a viable business.

In 2016, the company pivoted to a white-label recommerce model, providing a full suite of services for brands to manage their own buy-back and resale programs. This B2B service handles the entire circular process, including logistics, inspection, inventory management, cleaning, repairs, photography, and the creation of branded online resale storefronts. This allows brands to control their image, own customer data, and generate new revenue streams by selling their own products twice. Trove's clients are premium and luxury brands such as Patagonia, REI, Eileen Fisher, Levi's, and lululemon. The business model involves service fees and a share of the resale profits generated on the platforms it manages for its partners.
The pivot proved successful, leading to significant growth. After the shift in strategy, the company was reduced to a skeleton staff of five but has since grown substantially. Yerdle, now Trove, has raised a total of $63.4 million over five funding rounds, with its latest Series C round in November 2019. The company's rebranding to Trove in February 2020 was to better reflect its focus on helping brands unearth the treasure in their customers' closets.
