About Yaotang Bio

Yaotang Bio, also known as Yoltech Therapeutics, is a clinical-stage biotechnology firm established in Shanghai, China, in July 2021 by Dr. Yuxuan Wu, who serves as the company's CEO. The company focuses on developing one-time, in vivo gene-editing therapies for a spectrum of serious diseases, including genetic, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders.

The company's core business revolves around a fully integrated platform that combines proprietary gene editing technologies with an advanced lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system. This platform includes its own CRISPR nucleases (YolCas) and base editors (YolBE), which are delivered to specific tissues using its Yol-LNP technology. This approach enables precise and efficient gene editing directly within the body. The business model appears to be centered on the research, development, and eventual commercialization of these therapies. To support this, Yoltech has established its own cGMP-compliant manufacturing facility in Nanjing, which can handle production from clinical supply through to early commercial scale-up.

Since its founding, Yoltech has achieved several significant milestones. In September 2025, the company secured approximately $45 million in a Series B financing round led by the AstraZeneca-CICC healthcare investment fund, bringing its total funding to over $59 million. By 2024, its lead program, YOLT-201 for transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), had become the first LNP-mediated in vivo gene editing therapy to enter clinical development in China. The company has since advanced a pipeline of a dozen programs, with several in clinical stages, addressing conditions like familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) and primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1). The FDA granted IND clearance for its base-editing therapy YOLT-101 for HeFH in June 2025, a therapy which also received IND clearance in China.
