What began as Xata Corporation in 1985 evolved into a key player in the trucking industry's technological shift. The company focused on providing software and services for fleet management, pioneering electronic driver logs and performance data analysis to help trucking companies save money and improve safety. A pivotal moment came under the leadership of CEO Jay Coughlan, who took the helm in 2006. Recognizing the rise of mobile technology, Coughlan guided the company's transformation from specialized hardware to software solutions that ran on everyday smartphones and tablets. This shift was solidified in 2012 when the company rebranded to XRS Corporation, fully embracing its new identity as a leader in mobile fleet optimization. The company's success and focus on mobile platforms did not go unnoticed. In 2014, XRS attracted the attention of an industry rival, Omnitracs. This led to the most significant event in the company's history: its acquisition by Omnitracs for approximately $178 million. The deal, announced in September and closed in November 2014, marked a major consolidation in the fleet management industry and provided a successful exit for the Minnesota-based company.
