Founded in April 2021 by Seyoung Lee (CEO), Youngjoon Yoo (COO), Sungwon Jae, and Dongjae Lee (CPO), the company aims to make AI technology more accessible. The founders met while running a large non-profit student conference and leveraged that experience to build Wrtn.

The company provides a free platform that integrates various leading LLMs, such as OpenAI's GPT models, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini, allowing users to switch between them. Wrtn's core services include AI-powered conversational search, writing assistance, and image generation. The platform has grown rapidly, attracting over 6.5 million monthly active users across South Korea and Japan by early 2026. The business model generates revenue through advertising and premium content fees.

One of its key revenue-generating products is "Crack," an AI persona and character chat service that initially launched as a feature within the main app before becoming a standalone product. Crack allows users to engage in open-ended conversations and storytelling, which has driven high user engagement, with some users spending an average of two hours per day on the app. Another offering is Wrtn Agent OS, which enables users and developers to create their own AI agents and apps through a no-code interface.

Wrtn Technologies has secured significant funding, with its cumulative investment reaching approximately 130 billion won ($88.5 million) after a Series B round in March 2025. This funding is being used for global expansion, with established offices in Tokyo and Dubai, and plans to enter the US, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern markets. The company's strategy focuses on localizing its services for non-English speaking markets and building a platform ecosystem rather than developing proprietary LLMs.
