In 1983, Edward Wright founded Wright Therapy Products to address a personal need, creating the first sequential gradient pneumatic compression device to help a family member with lymphedema. This marked the company's entry into manufacturing home-based medical products, specifically compression-therapy systems for patients suffering from lymphedema and chronic venous insufficiency. Based in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, the company focused on developing, manufacturing, and selling these specialized medical devices. A key part of the company's strategy was its Comply Care program, a disease management and patient compliance initiative. This program was designed to improve clinical outcomes and reduce overall healthcare costs by partnering with patients and clinicians. By the early 2010s, the company had attracted investors, closing a $3 million Series B financing round in December 2012, primarily from angel investors. A significant turning point came on November 23, 2015, when the company was acquired by BSN medical, a German-based medical device company. The acquisition was part of BSN's strategy to become a full-solution provider for lymphedema care. This move integrated Wright Therapy's product line and its direct US sales force into BSN's larger wound care and vascular business, expanding its market reach.
