Wooclap
Interactive learning platform for higher education and business
About Wooclap
Wooclap is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company providing an audience engagement platform designed to make learning more interactive and effective. It primarily serves higher education institutions and corporate training sectors. The company was founded in Brussels in 2015 by Sébastien Lebbe and Jonathan Alzetta, two engineers passionate about education and technology who sought to transform smartphones from classroom distractions into powerful learning tools. They collaborated with neuroscientists and educators to build a platform grounded in cognitive science to improve information retention.
The platform allows educators and trainers to create real-time and asynchronous interactive activities, including polls, quizzes, word clouds, brainstorming sessions, and image-based questions. Participants join using a code on their devices, and results are displayed instantly, creating a shared interactive experience. Wooclap is designed for various teaching models, including in-person, remote, hybrid, and asynchronous sessions. A key feature is its seamless integration with existing tools like PowerPoint, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams, and various Learning Management Systems (LMS).
The business operates on a freemium model. It offers a free plan with limited features, alongside tiered subscription plans for individual educators and businesses that unlock unlimited questions, data exports, AI features, and customization. It also provides custom enterprise-level plans for institutions requiring features like single sign-on (SSO) and advanced analytics. In September 2023, the company announced it had surpassed 50 million users. By 2024, Wooclap was being used in all Belgian universities and by over 1,000,000 teachers in more than 150 countries. Corporate clients include Dior, Pernod Ricard, TotalEnergies, and PwC.
In response to the shift to distance learning, the company launched Wooflash in 2020. This complementary microlearning application uses artificial intelligence and spaced repetition to create personalized learning paths and help students retain knowledge. Wooclap has continued to innovate by integrating AI-powered features into its main platform, allowing educators to generate questions from content automatically. The company has raised a total of $30.7M over several funding rounds, including a significant Series B round of approximately $29.1M in September 2025, led by Impact Expansion, to fuel international growth and further AI development.
