WISeSat

WISeSat AG is a satellite communications company and a subsidiary of the global cybersecurity firm WISeKey International Holding. The company focuses on providing secure, cost-effective Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity through a constellation of nanosatellites. This initiative was conceived to address the growing need for real-time, secure connectivity for IoT devices, particularly in remote areas lacking terrestrial networks.

The company's history began with a partnership in 2021 between its parent, WISeKey, and FOSSA Systems, an aerospace company specializing in picosatellites. This collaboration led to the launch of the first generation of WISeSat satellites to demonstrate the feasibility of secure IoT connectivity from space. A key milestone was the successful launch of a next-generation satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in January 2025, which was equipped with post-quantum-ready security and semiconductors from its sister subsidiary, SEALSQ. The company plans to expand its constellation with additional satellite launches.

WISeSat's business model is centered on a Satellite-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering, providing recurring revenue through connectivity subscriptions, data monetization, and machine-to-machine (M2M) payments. The service provides end-to-end security by integrating WISeKey's Root of Trust (RoT) for device authentication and SEALSQ's post-quantum cryptographic chips to protect data against emerging quantum computing threats. The system works by having sensors collect and encrypt data, which is then sent to the satellite network, relayed to a ground station, and finally delivered to a server for decryption and analysis. This ensures data is authentic, confidential, and tamper-proof. It serves a wide range of industries including logistics, agriculture, energy, defense, and critical infrastructure management.
