About WEMS

In 1990, a company called WEMS was founded in Stockport, UK, with a focus on a specific niche: wireless building energy management systems. The core of their business was creating systems to remotely monitor and control services like heating and lighting, helping businesses gain efficiency and reduce costs. A key moment in their journey arrived in September 2012 when they secured a significant $20 million in funding from Alpina Partners, signaling a period of intended growth. The following year, WEMS began to expand through acquisition, purchasing Smart Energy Systems to strengthen its position in the automotive and hospitality sectors. This strategy continued in late 2015 when WEMS acquired Aimteq Energy Management, one of the UK's more established systems-integration companies. Following this, both WEMS and Aimteq became part of a holding company, Enterprise Solutions Holdings. The playbook took its final turn in February 2020, when the entire holding company, including both the Aimteq and WEMS brands, was acquired by a company called learnd. This acquisition was framed as a way to combine WEMS's engineering capability with learnd's 'building performance as a service' model, keeping the operational staff and locations in place to continue serving their customer base.
