Webshastra
Full service, focused internet marketing services company
About Webshastra
In the year 2000, as the dot-com boom was in full swing, the action wasn't limited to Silicon Valley. In Bangalore, India, Vinod Nambiar founded Webshastra, an internet advertising solutions provider. The company's premise was simple: while everyone else was digging for gold by launching websites, Webshastra would provide the shovels—the tools and services to make those websites profitable through advertising. Webshastra offered turnkey solutions, from creating the ads to media planning and monitoring their effectiveness. This vision quickly attracted capital. Just months after starting with a $1 million angel investment, the company secured a significant $10 million funding round from the global venture capital firm Warburg Pincus. For a young Indian internet company at the time, this was a major vote of confidence. The playbook was working, and it caught the attention of international players. In 2006, Webshastra had its major liquidity event: it was acquired by Position2, a US-based search engine marketing agency looking to enter the Indian market. The founders of Position2 saw Webshastra as a pioneer in India's internet advertising space, with the technology and global client list to prove it. The acquisition marked a new chapter, integrating the Webshastra team into Position2's global operations.
