Wafer is a Y Combinator AI infrastructure company building continuous inference optimization — software that learns from a workload’s traffic patterns and performance constraints, then finds better deployments across the model, engine, kernels and hardware so performance per dollar keeps improving after launch rather than relying on one-off manual tuning. In September 2026 Wafer raised a $40 million Series A co-led by Marathon and Chemistry, with Wing, AMD Ventures and Outset Capital, and existing investors Fifty Years and Y Combinator doubling down, plus angels including Jeff Dean, Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Andy Fang (DoorDash), Kyle Vogt, Akshay Kothari (Notion), Matthew Prince (Cloudflare) and Scott Stephenson (Deepgram), to automate more of the inference-optimization loop.
