About Volta Indonesia

Volta Indonesia, operating under PT Volta Indonesia Semesta, is an electric vehicle manufacturer established in 2017 with a strategic focus on accelerating the adoption of sustainable transportation in Indonesia. The company was founded by Iwan Suryaputra, who currently serves as a Director, while Okie Octavia Kurniawan, a veteran in logistics and sales, holds the position of CEO. The firm is a joint venture between logistics company SiCepat and NFC Indonesia, a subsidiary of the publicly-listed PT M Cash Integrasi (MCAS Group).

Headquartered in Jakarta with manufacturing facilities in Semarang, Volta specializes in the production of two and three-wheeled electric vehicles, with models including the 401, Virgo, and Mandala. The company targets a broad client base, including individual consumers (B2C), businesses (B2B), and government entities (B2G), through a 4S dealership network providing Sales, Service, Spare Parts, and its proprietary Battery Swap System (Sistem Ganti Baterai or SGB). This SGB network, a cornerstone of its business model, allows users to quickly exchange depleted batteries at hundreds of locations, including Alfamart, Alfamidi, and PLN stations across Java, Bali, and Sumatra, mitigating range anxiety and long charging times.

Volta generates revenue through the sale of its electric motorcycles and a subscription-like model for battery swaps. Vehicles are equipped with IoT systems integrated with a mobile application, allowing riders to manage their vehicle and monitor battery status in real-time. The company has also introduced programs like 'Semolis', an electric motorbike rental program for online taxi drivers that can lead to ownership, aiming to empower this community and lower the barrier to EV adoption. In November 2023, its parent company, Energi Selalu Baru (ESB), secured a significant investment from Twin Towers Ventures (the VC arm of Petronas) and Rigel Capital to expand the SGB network and enhance its technology platform.
