Founded in 2006 by Han Ying, the company develops and operates a mobile media platform specializing in digital publishing and distribution services for a wide array of content, including news, fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle. The platform enables users to access and read e-books and articles on their mobile devices.

The founder and CEO, Han Ying, has a significant background in China's technology and telecommunications sectors. Before his third entrepreneurial venture with Viva, he was involved in the early stages of AsiaInfo, the first Chinese internet company to be listed on NASDAQ. He also served as a vice president at China Netcom. Han Ying graduated from Capital Normal University, holds an MBA from Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, and serves in various academic and industry advisory roles.

Viva operates on a venture capital-backed, privately held business model. The company has secured multiple rounds of funding, including a Series A of $10 million in January 2009, a Series B in November 2012, and a Series C in October 2013, with total funding reaching at least $30 million. Key investors include Highland Capital Partners, Qihoo 360 Technology, and Impala Group. The primary revenue stream is generated through its digital content services on the mobile platform, which caters to a broad consumer market interested in digital reading.
