Vironexis
AAV gene-therapy platform delivering single-dose, off-the-shelf T-cell engagers for cancer treatment
About Vironexis
Vironexis is a clinical-stage biotechnology company founded in 2021 in San Diego, California that develops AAV-delivered T-cell immunotherapies for cancer. Its TransJoin in-vivo protein engineering platform uses a non-integrating AAV vector to make the patient's own liver continuously secrete a bispecific T-cell engager from a single intravenous dose, avoiding the ex-vivo manufacturing, lymphodepletion and repeat dosing associated with CAR-T and bispecific antibody therapies. The company was co-founded by CEO Samit Varma, scientist Brian Kaspar and physician-scientist Timothy Cripe, whose research at Nationwide Children's Hospital underlies the platform, which is licensed from the hospital.
Vironexis has built a pipeline of more than ten product candidates across hematologic malignancies, solid tumors and autoimmune disorders. Its lead programs are VNX-101, a CD19+ therapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphoma, and VNX-202 for HER2+ cancers, both of which are in Phase 1/2 clinical trials. Lead candidate VNX-101 has received FDA Fast Track, Rare Pediatric Disease and Orphan Drug designations. The company operates a lean research-and-development model, funding its programs through venture capital and partnerships.
