Vesta Energy Ltd. was a privately held Canadian exploration and production company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, founded in 2011. The company focused on developing light oil properties, specifically targeting the Joffre Duvernay Shale oil play and the Mannville Group in central Alberta. Vesta's business model revolved around the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas assets. The company's operations were concentrated in the East Shale Basin of the Duvernay light oil window, where it held a significant land position.

Historically, Vesta Energy secured significant funding to fuel its growth, raising C$295 million in equity financing in May 2017, co-led by Riverstone Holdings and JOG Capital. This followed an initial funding of $216.7 million. The company's strategy involved drilling light oil and liquids-rich prospects, and by September 2024, it had production of 15,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 184 producing wells.

A significant milestone in the company's history occurred on December 4, 2024, when Vesta Energy was acquired by Parallax Energy Operating Inc. The acquisition was a strategic move for Parallax, backed by Carnelian Energy Capital, to gain a substantial footing in the Duvernay play. Following the acquisition, Vesta became part of Parallax Energy, which now operates an established production base exceeding 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with roughly 75% being light oil, across approximately 230,000 net acres. The transaction effectively consolidated Vesta's assets into Parallax's portfolio, positioning the combined entity for long-term growth with a significant inventory of development opportunities in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
