Vesigen Therapeutics

The core of Vesigen's operations is its proprietary ARMMs (ARRDC1-mediated microvesicles) technology. ARMMs are a class of naturally occurring extracellular vesicles that cells use to transport signals between them. Vesigen engineers these vesicles to package and deliver a wide array of therapeutic payloads—including mRNA, proteins, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing systems—directly into the cytoplasm of target cells. This technology addresses a significant challenge in the biopharmaceutical industry: delivering large, complex molecules to intracellular targets, which constitute over 80% of validated drug targets. By using a biological mechanism, the ARMMs platform aims to offer a delivery system that is biocompatible, redosable, and can be engineered for tissue-specific targeting, potentially reducing off-target effects and issues with immunogenicity seen with viral vectors.

The company's business model centers on leveraging the ARMMs platform to develop a pipeline of therapeutic candidates, with initial focus areas in neurological diseases, oncology, and ophthalmology. Revenue generation appears to be structured around advancing its own therapeutic agents into preclinical and clinical development, while also making the engineered vesicle technology available to other companies for different indications. Vesigen launched in July 2020 with a significant $28.5 million Series A financing round. This funding was co-led by Leaps by Bayer and Morningside Ventures, with participation from Alexandria Venture Investments and Linden Lake Ventures. The capital was earmarked for building out the ARMMs platform and advancing multiple candidates. In March 2025, it was announced that Turn Biotechnologies acquired the ARMMs technology and all associated assets from Vesigen, including the license from Harvard University, to expand its own delivery capabilities for epigenetic therapies.
