VeriTeQ
Developing innovative RFID technologies for implantable medical device identification and radiation dosimeters for use in cancer treatment
About VeriTeQ
VeriTeQ Corporation was a U.S.-based medical technology company focused on radio-frequency identification (RFID) and sensor technologies for healthcare applications, particularly implantable medical device identification and radiation dose measurement. The company’s technological roots trace back to the early 1990s, when foundational RFID and sensing technologies that would later underpin its products were first developed. These early efforts evolved over time into commercial healthcare applications aligned with emerging regulatory and clinical needs.
In its later and most visible corporate form, VeriTeQ Corporation was founded in 2011 by Scott R. Silverman, who served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 2011 to 2016. Under Silverman’s leadership, the company specialized in providing a Unique Device Identification (UDI) solution for the medical device market. Its core offering was the proprietary “Q Inside Safety Technology,” a human-implantable, passive RFID microtransponder that received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance in October 2004. The complete system combined the implantable microchip, a handheld reader, and a secure database, enabling in-vivo identification of implantable medical devices and supporting FDA requirements for direct part marking, particularly for reprocessed devices.
Beyond device identification, VeriTeQ pursued the development of data analytics and informatics platforms designed to collect non-patient-specific treatment and usage data, with the aim of improving evidence-based healthcare decision-making and regulatory compliance. The company also operated a secondary business line focused on radiation dosimetry and medical sensor technologies, including the OneDose wireless, disposable skin-surface sensor that provided immediate radiation dose delivery data for radiation oncology and imaging applications.
VeriTeQ became a publicly traded company in 2013 through a reverse merger with VeriTeQ Acquisition Corp., an RFID solutions entity also led by Silverman, which became a wholly owned subsidiary following the transaction. In April 2016, VeriTeQ Corporation was acquired by Jamm Technologies, bringing its public-company operations to a close. The company should not be confused with Veriteq Instruments Inc., a separate Canadian data-logging company that was acquired by Vaisala in 2010 and had no corporate relationship to VeriTeQ Corporation.
