Box Office Software - Vendini
About Vendini, Inc.
Vendini, Inc. operated as a provider of a comprehensive, all-in-one software solution for the live events industry. The company was founded in 2001 by Mark Tacchi, who bootstrapped the company without any outside funding. Tacchi's career began at NeXT and Apple, Inc., and before Vendini, he founded a software company called Hipbone, which was acquired in 2004. He reportedly started developing the original Vendini software from a mountain house in Tahoe, California.
The company's core business was to provide event organizers with the tools to manage ticketing, marketing, patron management, and fundraising. Its target clients were diverse, ranging from theaters and playhouses to live music venues, festivals, casinos, and universities. Vendini's business model was based on providing its platform to these venues, simplifying the process of selling tickets and managing event logistics. Revenue was generated through a combination of per-ticket processing fees and a percentage of the ticket price, with additional costs for hardware and a one-time setup fee.
Vendini's product was a cloud-based platform that offered a suite of features including online ticketing, box office management, and patron management. The platform included mobile applications for iOS, such as TicketAgent for selling tickets and TicketScan for access control. It also offered hardware like ticket printers, cash drawers, and credit card readers. A key benefit was the consolidation of various event management functions into a single system, from promoting events on social media to tracking customer data. Over the years, Vendini expanded its capabilities and market reach through strategic acquisitions, including Dataflow Workspace in 2011, In Ticketing in 2014, and CrowdTorch in 2015.
In May 2019, Vendini was acquired by AudienceView, a Toronto-based leader in e-commerce software for the entertainment industry. Following the acquisition, the Vendini product was rebranded as AudienceView Select. However, in July 2020, AudienceView announced it would be deprecating AudienceView Select, with plans to migrate customers to its AudienceView Professional platform.
