What does a former head of a Domino’s and a KFC in India do when he sees a gap in the market? He starts a company to fill it. In 2013, Viraj Bahl founded Veeba Food Services. His experience in the quick-service restaurant industry showed him a clear need for a reliable, high-quality supplier of sauces, dips, and emulsions in India. Initially, the playbook was straightforward: focus on the business-to-business (B2B) market, supplying to the very restaurant chains he knew so well. The initial strategy was to be the go-to supplier for institutional clients. This provided a stable foundation. But the bigger opportunity was in the kitchens of everyday consumers. The company made a strategic shift to enter the retail market, bringing its restaurant-quality sauces directly to the people. This move meant building a brand from the ground up and competing for shelf space in a crowded market. The turning point came with significant financial backing. In 2017, Veeba raised $15 million in a Series C funding round led by a prominent investor. This capital injection was earmarked for expanding production capacity and strengthening its distribution network across India. It was a clear signal that the company’s dual B2B and B2C strategy was not just working, but poised for major growth. Today, Veeba is a household name in India, found in both restaurant kitchens and home pantries.
