About Unmade

Unmade Ltd. operates as a software company providing digital infrastructure to major apparel and sportswear brands, facilitating a shift towards on-demand production. Founded in London in 2013 by Ben Alun-Jones, Kirsty Emery, and Hal Watts, the company was established with the goal of reshaping the fashion industry's design and manufacturing processes. This vision aimed to create a more sustainable model where brands produce only what has been sold.

The core of the business is its proprietary software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, UnmadeOS, which is offered on a subscription basis. This platform equips brands like New Balance, Ralph Lauren, and Decathlon with tools for customization, teamwear, and small-batch production. UnmadeOS utilizes patented automation and visualization technologies to translate design configurations directly into manufacturing-ready data. This enables clients to offer personalized products at scale, from a single unit to over 10,000, integrating directly with existing factory machinery and workflows. The system generates photorealistic visuals, including 3D and on-model representations, and automatically creates the necessary production files, including instructions for printing, knitting, and cutting.

The business model is centered on helping brands connect consumer demand directly to the production line, thereby reducing waste from overproduction, minimizing inventory, and accelerating speed to market. By enabling an on-demand model, Unmade's clients can test new products and business models with real-time customer data instead of speculation. In July 2024, Unmade was acquired by Hi-Tech Apparel, a major garment manufacturer, to integrate its technology on a larger scale. Following the acquisition, the UK-based team, led by CEO Hal Watts, remains with the business to continue developing the platform, which will operate independently, serving any brand or manufacturer.
