About Universign

Founded in 2001 by Julien Stern, who holds a PhD in cryptology, Universign is a Paris-based provider of SaaS electronic signature solutions. The company was established in response to the first European directive on electronic signatures, building its foundation on the legal framework governing digital transactions. Over the years, Universign secured $16.2 million in funding across two rounds, including a significant Series B round in 2018, to fuel its growth.

In November 2021, the growth equity firm Providence Strategic Growth (PSG) acquired a majority stake in Universign, merging it with its existing portfolio companies, Signaturit and Ivnosys. This strategic combination formed the Signaturit Group, creating a major European entity in digital transaction management and trust services. Following the acquisition, Julien Stern became a shareholder in the new group and continued to lead the operations in France. In 2023, the Universign brand was consolidated under the single brand name, Signaturit, to unify its European presence.

The company's business is centered on providing legally binding trust services through a SaaS platform. It generates revenue by offering these services to a diverse client base that includes large corporations and small to medium-sized businesses across sectors like insurance, banking, real estate, and the public sector. The business model operates on both a pay-per-use and multi-signature pack basis, accessible via a web application and a flexible API for integration into existing client workflows.

Universign's core product is a comprehensive suite of trust services that includes electronic signatures, electronic seals, and timestamping. As a Qualified Trust Service Provider under the European eIDAS regulation, its services ensure that digital transactions are secure and legally compliant. Key features of the platform include robust authentication, detailed audit trails, secure document storage, workflow automation, and multi-party signing capabilities. The platform is designed for simplicity and compliance, enabling clients to securely sign any PDF document from various devices, thereby streamlining contracting and administrative processes.
