Umbra is a financial privacy layer built on the Solana blockchain, designed to provide the cryptographic infrastructure for confidential transactions. The protocol allows users and applications to protect their financial data on-chain through anonymous, unlinkable, and auditable token transfers and interactions. It functions as a shared-state system engineered for capital efficiency, offering strong privacy guarantees without the high per-user costs often associated with on-chain privacy solutions.

The core functionalities of Umbra include unlinkable transfers that cryptographically sever the connection between sender and receiver, confidential amounts where transaction values are encrypted and visible only to the involved parties, and a relayer network that supports "gasless" withdrawals to new, unfunded addresses. A key feature is its integrated, opt-in compliance framework. Users can generate voluntary viewing keys to grant read-only access to their transaction history to third parties like auditors, enabling a balance between privacy and regulatory requirements.

In October 2025, Umbra completed a highly successful Initial Coin Offering (ICO) on the MetaDAO platform, a governance model that uses prediction markets to guide decisions. The offering was oversubscribed by more than 206 times its minimum target, raising $154.9 million in USDC commitments from over 10,500 investors, though the hard cap was set at $3 million. This significant interest signals strong market demand for privacy-focused blockchain applications. The project is managed by Phoenix DAO LLC, a decentralized autonomous organization registered in the Marshall Islands. The co-founder is identified by the pseudonym "Kru".

Umbra is powered by Arcium, a multi-party computation (MPC) network that enables encrypted and scalable data processing. For businesses and DAOs, Umbra offers private treasury management and confidential operations like payroll and supplier payments. For individual users, it provides tools to protect financial history and shield DeFi trading strategies from front-running.
