This acquisition enabled Umba to launch full banking services in the country in January 2023, including current accounts, interest-bearing savings accounts, and fixed deposit accounts. The company has also established a network of over 5,000 agents in Kenya to facilitate customer acquisition.

Through its mobile app, Umba provides customers with a suite of financial services. These include free checking accounts, peer-to-peer money transfers, bill payments, and deposits. A core component of its offering is lending, with products such as salary advances and installment loans for individuals, as well as financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For its business clients, Umba offers a solution centered around payroll and employee financing, including automated payroll and an employee management dashboard. The platform utilizes machine learning for credit risk assessment, loan decisioning, and fraud detection. The company has secured significant funding to support its growth, including a $2 million seed round in December 2020, a $15.5 million Series A round in April 2022, and a $5 million debt facility in April 2025.
