Ultra Clean Technology
Critical subsystems and services for semiconductor fabrication.
About Ultra Clean Technology
Ultra Clean Holdings, Inc. (UCTT), established in 1991, operates as a key developer and supplier of critical subsystems, components, and ultra-high purity cleaning and analytical services, primarily for the semiconductor industry. The company was originally founded by Mitsubishi Corporation to introduce Japanese clean manufacturing techniques to Silicon Valley and was led by Dr. Hisayashi Kobayashi. A significant milestone occurred in 2002 when a management team, led by Clarence Granger, acquired the company from Mitsubishi, taking it independent. Granger, who served in various roles including CEO for 12 years, has been instrumental in the company's growth and strategy, and recently stepped in as interim CEO in March 2025. The company completed its initial public offering on March 24, 2004, and is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol UCTT.
UCTT's business is structured into two main divisions: Products and Services. The Products division, which accounts for the majority of revenue, provides integrated outsourced solutions for major subassemblies, including gas and chemical delivery systems, mechatronics, thermal solutions, and fluid delivery systems. This segment serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by improving design-to-delivery cycle times and offering high-precision manufacturing. The Services division delivers tool chamber parts cleaning, coating, and micro-contamination analytical services, which help improve process performance and lower the total cost of ownership for its clients. Revenue is generated from the sale of these products and services, with major customers including Lam Research and Applied Materials. The company's business model is vertically integrated, combining product development, manufacturing, and service delivery to provide end-to-end solutions.
Operating in the semiconductor capital equipment market, UCTT also supports industries such as flat panel, medical, research, solar, and energy. The company has pursued a strategic expansion through both organic growth and acquisitions. It expanded its manufacturing footprint into Asia, opening facilities in Shanghai, China, in 2005 and Singapore in 2009. Key acquisitions have included Sieger Engineering in 2006 to enhance its subsystem capabilities, Quantum Global Technologies (QGT) to enter the semiconductor equipment cleaning market, and Ham-Let in 2021 to strengthen its flow control systems offerings. These strategic moves have diversified its portfolio and expanded its global presence, allowing the company to consistently outgrow the Wafer Fabrication Equipment (WFE) industry.
